"Daniel has been involved in music since the third grade, playing the clarinet and saxophone for school bands and singing in the choir, and later studying music at the University of Delaware, where Lights Out was born. It was as a member of Lights Out that Daniel truly began to grow as a singer/songwriter, and he has since expanded his musical miscellany to include the guitar and piano.
Almost as long as he has been a musician he has been a martial artist, and often asserts that Sword and Song are the twin halves of his soul. His journey through the world of martial arts is no doubt responsible for the subtle spiritual flavour that often finds its way into his lyrics.
Equally responsible is his love of philosophy, which he also studied at U of D (and in which he ultimately obtained his degree).
Ever the avid seeker of knowledge, Daniel has dabbled in just about everything he could get his hands into over the course of his life. From carpentry to calligraphy, from whittling to waitering, from scotch drinking and pipe smoking to sailing...if there is new knowledge to be gained, or a new experience to be had, Daniel will find his way into that world. That said, if ever you encounter Daniel in the midst of a random moment of his life, you can put your money on there being either a sword in his hand, or a song on his lips (or, perhaps, just a good book and a fine single malt scotch)."
